CSA Week #3

Did you know veggies in the allium (onion) family start to "bulb up" around the summer solstice? We were excited to share spring onions and fresh garlic with our CSA members this week. This onion variety is called Red Long of Florence and is an Italian heirloom. You might recognize it from last year! We had to grow this variety again because we love its unique shape and wonderful, mild flavor which can be enjoyed raw if you're an onion lover. Plus, we love using the tops!

CSA Week #2 is full of old favorites and new things to try!

The scape is the flower part of the garlic plant and is removed because 1) it is delicious and 2) it makes the bulbs grow bigger. It has a fresh, green garlic flavor and can be used in any recipe in which you usually use garlic (except you can use a lot more!) We love scapes in eggs, on pizza, in stir fry, and pickled like dilly beans.
