Why your membership matters

Farming doesn’t start in May, it starts in the depths of winter.

Before the farmers market opens, we’ve already planned out the whole season, bought seeds, and invested in supplies.

Your membership helps the farm cover these early costs without relying on traditional lending.

It’s a simple, community-based way to keep our small farm going strong. And it works because we can rely on the people we feed.

FAQs

  • At the farmers market, just let us know your name at checkout. (Before you know it, we’ll be on a first-name basis!)

On the online store, choose “Use my membership balance” at checkout. We’ll write your new balance on the bottom of your packing slip.

  • Yes! The more you buy, the more bonus credit you get. Any amount over $100 receives the 10% bonus.

We recommend $100 for anyone who is participating in our membership program for the first time.

  • Yes, you can reload any time — but the 10% bonus only applies to your initial purchase.

Reloading is a great option for those who spend all of their credit but enjoy the convenience of purchasing without cash.

  • Two reasons:

    1. Without a deadline it’s easy to forget you have funds — and suddenly it’s winter.

    2. It helps the farm function. Membership is meant to support the farm in the year you’re joining, not carry liabilities into future years.

Farming is tricky business because the expenses come long before the first crops are ready.

Our members help solve this problem, keeping the farm thriving!

Your early support makes a big difference and that’s why we love to give you bonus credit as a thank-you!

  • If you have extra at the end of the year, we’ll automatically turn it into fresh produce for the Decorah and Calmar food pantries.

  • Our membership is a new form of CSA (Community Supported Agriculture).

In traditional CSAs, members receive a farmers-choice box of vegetables every week for several months of the year.

We chose this model instead because it gives you the flexibility you need while still getting the farm the early community support it needs for a successful season.

  • Yes! We’ll give you an updated balance at the farmers market after every purchase and at the bottom of your packing slip when you order online.

You can also email carly(at)sweetseasonfarmiowa.com and ask for your balance at any time.

  • We’re planning for a max of 75 members for the 2026 season.

Members who join by March 1 will receive a 10% bonus on their pre-paid balance.

If spots are still available, we’ll continue with sign-ups with a 5% bonus through April 1, or until all memberships are filled.

Sign up takes less than 2 minutes.

Pay online and you’re all set! Your balance will be ready for you this spring.
